Pocket Change, Entitlement, and Whining

Posted on June 28, 2007May 22, 2019 by Dodger

Kotaku posted an article today about the Resistance MP Map pack coming online tomorrow and, predictably, whined about the price:

“This news, not so hot, as they’re going to cost you USD$7.99. For two maps. Give Sony credit, they’re learning some of Microsoft’s online tricks quicker than others.”

Now maybe it’s just because I worked on the maps, and I know how large they are and how much they cost to make. Maybe I just have a low opinion about what $8 can buy you. Shit, I have more than $8 sitting in the coin tray in my fucking car!

I can understand being pissed about paying for horse armor. I can understand being pissed about about paying to unlock cheats.

At this point, I think people are just pissed about paying anything at all. Fuck, I’d like to get everything for free, too — but that’s not how it works.

I worried for months before I left Insomniac that Sony was going to charge like $15 for these, given how much they cost to make. When I saw the $8 price tag, I jumped for joy. Finally, a reasonable price for downloadable content, I thought. You get two gigantic maps (of which only four shipped in the RETAIL game) that break down into all manner of smaller maps, as well as all the content that they’ve been giving for FREE since the game shipped.

Shit, maybe I’m just out of touch — but I can’t imagine that someone who would pay $400-$600 for a game console would think that $8 is a lot of money.

Please post in the comments to correct me and tell me how incredibly wrong I am.

Note: The new Ward32 episode is up right underneath this one. I posted them pretty close together

What do you even say to someone like in this thread?

Why do these people even exist in this world?

Eight dollars is a lot of fucking money. Think about it; that’s a #7 from Taco Bell AND a #10 at McDonalds. Jesus Christ, you’re killing us, Sony.

But seriously, it goes to show the ridiculous mentality of some people. No one seems to complain about paying $10 every month to use mmo servers, yet it’s some ungraceful letdown for people to pay a one time fee of $8 for some nice maps. I’ll bet half the people doing the bitching have already spent more than that on the electricity they’ve used for all of their PS3 folding.

It goes to show how great a product Resistance is; that people would gripe about something so minuscule. They’re just looking for something to whine about. If they did so much as take the cost of creating the maps into consideration, they’d have to think otherwise. For the sole reason of selective thinking, I’m assuming they don’t.

And btw, $8 instinctively makes me think of that Seinfeld episode ‘The Subway’. The woman attempts to rob George, only to find $8. “I wasted my whole morning on you for eight dollars?”

Of course, some people *do* complain about MMO subscription fees, and their perceived lack of content to justify that fee.

      They’re just equally retarded.
